Ali is from Iran and wanted to move to Canada to make a fresh start for his family. They moved to New Brunswick permanently in August of 2017. He had hoped to leave for Canada 6 years earlier in 2011 but the Syrian war intervened. His file was sent to the Canadian embassy responsible for immigration in the middle east which is in Syria. Three days after his file arrived at the Embassy, the war started in Syria, his immigration file was lost in the the chaos that ensued. Some 6 years later, the Canadian embassy in Turkey called him out of the blue and asked if he still wanted to go to Canada – needless to say he was thrilled after such a long wait.
